As a native Hong Kong foodie I think it’s part of my role as a citizen to promote exciting local events when it falls within my capacity. Yes, my face in a local Fish Maw restaurant in UFood Magazine was plastered all over Facebook this week and I didn’t look all that great lol, but my only concern in contributing something online is when there are strong reasons behind the story. This LKF upcoming event is honestly too good to be missed for local-ers. A collaboration between 10 different Bars & Restaurants within Hong Kong’s most famous night area Lan Kwai Fong District, also appreciating the effort spent by the masterminds behind I♥HK and I♥LKF to make it a total adventure on the day! Please buy some tokens to exchange for $50 Tapas sized dishes including a glass of sparkling or house selected wines. It’s all set for happening on the 12th of May , so pre-order them here at Discover a Taste of LKF. We visited 3 out of 10 restaurants as a preview but below you can find my personal opinion of what exactly to order or what to avoid …
- 1st Stop – DiVino’s -
Fantinel N.V. Brut Rose -
Made from Pinot Nero and Chardonnay and using a 2nd fermentation technique. A bubbly fun with berries toned flavours and quite refreshing. ~ 8/10
Mozzarelline Fritte with anchovies – $50
The wine and food pairing is just $50. A bargain!
This Southern Italian snack is great for a gastro pub. Highly recommended. ~ 7/10
Refosco dal Peduncolo, from Rosso Borgo Tesis 2009, Italy -
A well selected wine for a quaff, I think I like DiVino’s wines!
Polpette -
Made from roasted chicken, salami, spinach, potatoes, egg and Parmesan cheese. The stringy nature of this reminds me of Crab Cakes, and it is not so Polpette meat ball like as usual. Hard to judge this, but probably worth trying once. ~ 6.5/10
- 2nd Stop - Casa Lisboa -
Sardine and Pork on Toasted Bread -
I think these were created only for this event and it was at best decent. Not very interesting in terms of look and presentation, although was ok in taste. ~ 5/10
Portuguese Wine -
Aromatically sweet. Not for everyone but quite oaky.
Approachable and quality is quaffable range. It’s more than decent.
Carne de Porco a Alentejana (Pork with Clams) -
A must order. This was really well balanced between porkiness, clams flavour as well as cilantro herbs and lemon. The dish of the night personally. ~ 10/10
- 3rd Stop – Robata Zawazawa -
Classic. Is the food any good?
That’s the most pertinent question!
Zawazawa 騷々
Means NOISE in Japanese,
and in Chinese characters it can also mean SEDUCTION.. Exotic stuff either way.
Menu at Zawazawa Robatayaki -
The $50 dessert or $100 savories options.
Both were good, actually.
Zawa Mojto -
A Japanese version, made with Shochu, Lime and Shiso Leaves. Very refreshing indeed and highly likable. Who would have thought? I like it more hardcore so probably can do a double shot version! A bit weak as it is.. ~ 6.9/10
Tuna Isobe Roll with Wasabi Flavoured Yam - $50
Didn’t get to try this, but overheard that it was good. ~ N/A
Bean Curd Pocket with Rice Cake, Miso Pork Belly, and Bonjiri Chicken - $100 with sake
You know Kushiyaki sticks in HK really aren’t that great compared to Japan, there’s only 3 shops that are up to standards, here is probably one of the best ones. The chicken has proper chicken taste and the sauce was good. Pork Belly was tender. 9/10
Kinako "grilled” Mochi Rice Cake, Kuromitsu and Strawberries and Anmitsu -
This is interesting, as this pairing is usually with Warabi-mochi and not grilled Mochi. So this has a more crispier texture and mixed well with the kinako powder and black honey. ~ 7/10

ReplyDeleteI like pub food too much >m< A creature of habit!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like such a good event and typically the sort of thing I'd love to attend. Sadly, I'll be in Vietnam that weekend. Do you know if they have more LKF taste events planned for this year?
ReplyDeleteHi Jacqueline!
ReplyDeleteVietnam will be fun though, don't worry ! I am not sure of future events as yet, but hopefully they will organise more. I will be returning to this on the actual day on 12th of May. : )
Drinking in LKF is always fun but it is also fairly expensive. lan kwai fong bars
