Pierre Marcolini - (Taipei)

It’s a little weird come to think about it that I did go to one of Pierre Marcolini’s outlet in Taipei,  but when I was in Belgium I sort of skipped it in the end.  I have been a fan of Pierre Marcolini for a while and he is one of the pioneering chocolate masters in the world with many awards under his belt.   One thing I adore the most about Pierre Marcolini is that within the very tight nip and tuck competition Belgian chocolatiers,  I simply found Marcolini’s artisanal chocolates to be much more connoisseur orientated and they are several degrees less sweeter than the immediate Belgian chocolate shops you are likely to visit.

Neatly presented.  I have always wondered why Marcolini doesn’t open an outlet in Hong Kong,  choosing to have an Asian presence in Taipei instead.

Cakes on Display -
It is not feasible to have all cakes imported in from Belgium,  so logistically it makes total sense that most of the cakes here are produced locally in Taiwan.

Le Delvaux -
This particular Chocolate cake is one of the signatures and named after the Belgian leather goods maker.  One of the rare desserts imported from Belgium directly.  Quite sophisticated and well layered in flavours. Not too sour or bitter in balance either, great!   It has a mixture of raspberry,  Ecuador chocolate, Vanilla Bavarois,  Java Indonesian chocolate mousse,  Pistachio and Vanilla ice cream. ~  10/10

Tea was a weakest link here -
This Earl Grey was very weak and I personally find that if a tea is not made right,  it actually makes you want to cough somehow as it dries out your mouth lining.  Which is what happened here.

Chocolate Éclair -
This is made locally and surprisingly this was very lovely too.  With a crispy feuilletine-like layer on top.  The éclair choux pastry was also not deflated and remained firm and delectable.  ~  8/10

Definitely Recommended -
As mentioned above,  Pierre Marcolini gets my vote because it isn’t overly sweetened up to suit the milk chocolate crowd.   The pastries were quite enjoyable and so are their other chocolate products.
