Aamanns is famous for their Danish Open-faced sandwiches ‘Smørrebrøds’, often served on a piece of Rye Bread. It reminds me of both a Basque-Spanish food Pintxos and a Holland Dutch open sandwich which carried subtle variances. Denmark in general has really respectable food as we found and there is no coincidence that NOMA has been voted as one of the best restaurants in the world if one truly believes in the Top 50 Pellegrino’s list, naming NOMA as the Top Restaurant in the world. Nevertheless this really is a foodies city and the architectural buildings were equally astonishing classy. I really do miss Denmark for both it’s coffees and it’s food.
During November 2012, Aamanns also Opened an outlet in New York as well -
‘Smørrebrød’, when will you come to Hong Kong too? It’s quite funny looking back at this photo because I have been trying to avoid seeing the Michelin man as I prefer Bridgestone tires, but here it was once again
Beer Time -
We ordered 2 different types of local Danish beers to compare. Both were decent but not jumping out. But still likable for a benign balance.
Porcini Lardo Spread -
Gorgeous and very strong in lard taste. Lardo spread seems prevalent up here in Scandinavian countries as many restaurants serve the same. This combination with porcini was a 1st for me and unbeatable, and only coming from a Café style eatery.
Rye & Wheat Bread -
Served with above mentioned Porcini infused fatty Lardo spread and another Local Butter. The breads were awesome and so were the Spreads. I wish I could eat this again tomorrow any day any time. Really amazing stuff and in fact I liked these better than my spreads at Noma as well. ~ 10/10

Really sophisticated open sandwiches here, absolutely addictive indeed. ~ 9/10
Right: Fried Herring with Apple Mustard, Fresh Apple, Onion & Dill Smørrebrød -
Really great casual food. With sophisticated thoughtfulness and recipes, that you normally take for granted somehow.
Hemmingland Beef Tartare -
Eggs and Seeded Mustard Cream, with Gherkin pickles, Capers, Shallots & Tarragon. House made Potato Crisps were so adorable, the minced beef hash was all chunky and memorable and meaty. So sophisticated a beef tartare, from just a normal sandwich shop. They do care about food here I really believe.. ~ 9/10
Danish Brown Crab Meat, Crustacean Yoghurt Mousse, Breakfast Radish, Frisee salad, Pickled Tomato Vinaigrette, Tomato Concasse, Dill, Thyme, Parsley, with In-house made Crab Crisps -
Such an sophisticated and thoughtful crab dish from just a sandwich shop once again. This was excellent indeed and even the herbs mixture were judicially balanced. ~ 9/10
Snaps, or Schnapps, made from Rye Bread and Sea Buckthorn respectively -
Normally, people associate Schnapps with Germany but in fact these were invented in Scandinavian countries. They are often drank accompanying your Beers or at the end of a meal, to double on the drinking journeys experience like an enhanced 2nd drug.
Wonderful Danish Food and Drinks -
Really reasonably priced. I miss here a lot already from last month.
Totally worth a Visit -
For fun, for taste and for the experience in Denmark.
It manages to wow you in the most minute details and attention to every single component you can pick it on. This is certainly one shop that we could do with on a daily basis in Hong Kong. An utterly amazing experience for a casual joint and after New York, I hope they do open a branch in HK.
