Coffees in Scandinavian countries are highly regarded and Denmark has ‘brewed’ a world record 4 World Barista Champions and Norway 2 times in the past decade, with Sweden also featuring highly in the pecking order. Scandinavia in general is said to carry a specific roasting and brewing profile that people generalize to be more lighter and brighter. I didn’t find this statement to be totally accurate at all - you do find similar styled coffees in London, Hong Kong, Australia or Taiwan, etc. Besides, traditionally coffees up here are brewed using French Press on average.
Hand Dripped Coffee -
Also available are Aero Press, VacPot Siphon, Bunn Trifecta, Espresso, etc.
Guatemala Finca Ceylan Organic – (V60 Pour Over Drip)
The shop after some negotiation, said this would yield a drink which should suit my preference for ‘cleaner’ coffees language barriers aside. I feel bad saying this as he was super-duper friendly.. but to me this was really Dark Roasted toffeed yet burnt. Any generalisation that Denmark or Scandinavian country coffees were too light and bright are instantly thrown out of the window by this cup.
Latin American Single Espresso -
The blend is not specified, but upon color inspection it looked ok light, no mottling and just what you would find in say London. But in the mouth this was DARK ! I would say even burnt. I actually arrived here after drinking my coffees at one of the Coffee Collectives just mins from here. Them both being Competitors, I really thought this was underwhelming. ~ 6/10
Cappuccino -
Using the same blend as above single origin Espresso. This again looked mild in colors but it fooled us once again. It was so dark roasty and bitter, also arrived so hot, it really seemed too dark and thin to be within acceptable range. Actually it was surprising that the above Espresso performed better than this milk diluted cup. ~ 4/10
Nice Atmosphere -
It’s a Café or Kaffe that customers can come to love.
But the coffees here were anything than the assumed Scandinavian styled coffees. Far from it. You wouldn’t even find this bitter and dark style of coffee in Southern Italy. In fact, you wouldn’t even find this in a Hong Kong Starbucks shop, it was that extreme..
Self Roaster Machine -
Coffee Bar -
Or Laboratorium. To me, obviously something was really missing as everything was roasted to death beyond drinkable levels, even by Japanese Sumiyaki standards.
