I did not end up visiting as many cafes in London as I’d originally planned, as some were either closed by 6pm, too outta the way or those I’d previously planned for a Sunday – were mostly shut. Taylor St Baristas was a life saver and despite also brewing Union Coffee as was experienced in the terrible Amano’s and a couple of other places, this turned out to be great and the only satisfactory Union Coffee experience…
The best branch of the five Taylor’s cafes is supposedly the Old Broad Street outlet near Bank Station, but this proved easier to access on the day. There’s another one closeby to here in Shoreditch.
This Outlet opposite Liverpool Metro station.
Opened by 3 Australian owners and training well their baristas.
New Zealand’s Allpress Espresso and Prufrock Coffee are also close by to here,
if you’re on a coffee discovery trail in the area..
Quite a few interesting food offerings
The coffee terms are definitely very Australian..
Single Origin filter coffees are made using the popular Aero Press,
which is a hand-pressurised plastic tube gadget and probably better than a French Press.
2 Baristas working on the same machine.. super busy
Short Black (£1.2 a shot, a bargain!)-
Aussie slang for a single espresso, this was pulled perfectly in timing and volume. It’s a fairly bright and fruity coffee but balanced, a nice clean cup without jagged edges, something rare to find in HK. Crema is quite thin and with its light-medium body, starting to form an image in my head that it’s a trait of most Union roasted coffees and carries barely more body than the cup at Monmouth’s Coffee. But listen to the B.S. being spread online and they’ll tell you this should have be more bolder, thicker, smell better, colour darker, blah blah blah. But it’s 3rd Wave coffee we are talking here for christ’s sake, not Italian styled or commercial coffees ~ 9/10

The cup looks like it says, its made by 'handsome people'... ok that's only when I come home too drunk :P
ReplyDeleteFor 2 years I had a coffee at 11:00 and 4:00 a day every day there...
ReplyDeleteI severely miss it and its staff
I miss this place too, even though I've only been there once - unlike you! : )
ReplyDeleteYou need something like this in HK. Properly prepared grab-to-go food, proper coffee that you want to go drink twice a day. When was the last time I had coffee twice a day in HK? I haven't. I used to drink like 4-5 of these daily. I'm not even drinking 4-5 monthly these days.
