Mimosa Patisserie - ♕♕♕

   If you trust Openrice.com and its many online contributors (well, me being one of them!), Mimosa Patisserie consensually gets the nod for making the best Napolean or Mille-Feuille pastry within Hong Kong...  I am not going to attempt over-riding the nice comments others have said about this place, as some close friends of mine preach and swear by this shop religiously, but this is My Blog and I am entitled to tell u one thing I’d ought to disclose to you before you come trying out here!!  Mimosa’s Napolean tastes exactly just like a Weet-Bix cereal, or Weetabix if you’re British, sandwiched together in the middle with a thick yellow custard bow… It’s one of the weirdest texture you could possibly imagine, but may be it is a Hong Kong thing which I’d failed to grasp even after 2 years back.  Nevertheless you’ll find this filed under the tag ‘HK Recommended’ on my blog, just because others say so already.  Afterall, you might just enjoy it more than I have learnt to appreciate it so far..!

At $28 per individual piece, its not exactly economical. 
But that depends on how much you think it’s worth in the end… ?

Mango Napolean -
This was my 2nd visit ever, during March 2010. The custard consistency has improved over a previous encounter. The  Mangoes were ok, but pastry was fairly Hong Kong styled.  Its more crunchy than flaky or layered for me.

Strawberry Napolean -
Not enough strawberries taste for me.  I don’t know, may be it’s just my own problem.  
I find the pastry here to be way too hard and dense, and the custard seems to have been thickened up artificially, instead of being light and infused with vanilla seed taste like a really good creme patissiere.  It’s a bit localised for me, but may be you’ll end up liking it?

  1. Tried the Napoleon, and since I am not a big fan of custardy, fruity dessert, I wasn't in love :)

    My friends are fanatics though ;)

  3. Mochachocolata Rita - Yep its sometimes a personal matter. I mean for me, I think this was tasty... but in terms of pastry level seems elementary grade! I much prefer the HK style Napolean cakes. (Review coming soon! Well, a re-post..)
