Posto Privato - A Private Kitchen..

Posto Privato inherited the space previously occupied by Commune Lab -  and the Set Menu is priced to start from a much more affordable $600 per person, which also includes the cost of hiring this ‘privato’ room.   The space is laid out like a chef’s table in front of the kitchen but can seat up to around 20 people inside the very communal setting.   The food served on this level is predominantly the same as offered downstairs at their Posto Pubblico restaurant,  which uses mostly sustainable food products and vegetables grown and sourced locally whenever it is substitutable and appropriate for reduced Carbon Footprint Eating,  which every responsible foodie would come to appreciate.     Although obviously, another very positive thing about here is that you can have the whole room to yourself!     Which is especially useful as the host for tonight’s dinner invited quite a few important guests in town for a dinner meet up.  VIP guests can finally take a break from the distraction of the public prying eyes and enjoy their meal in tranquility…

Cheese and Italian Cold Cut Platter -
With 4 types of very high quality cold cuts,  including Mortadella,  my favourite of Coppacola,  Salame, and a moister type of Parma Prosciutto,  also a Parmesan cheese.   This was very good actually, for Hong Kong’s standards…     ~    9/10

Pickled Gherkins,  Olives, Artichokes and Pearl Onions -
This is eaten with the above Cold Cut antipasti platter…

Gorgonzola Blue Cheese with Green Figs -
Another foodie this night,  mentioned that the figs would be nice with honey drizzled on top.  Couldn’t agree more!   This was a very lovely cheese board.  Look at those lovely blue veins on the cheese block !     ~   9/10

Insalata Mista -
Mixed greens are tossed together with pecorino, grilled bell peppers, tomato and onions, with a small drizzle of balsamic vinegar.   Pretty nice but could do with some more surprises, I guess!  ~   6.5/10

Home-Made Burrata with Local Tomatoes -
This is the only locally made Burrata as far as I’m concerned, but it carries a twist too inside that mozzarella casing,  as the stuffing is a mixture between a mascarpone and ricotta, together with black truffle.   The texture was right for a burrata, with a well stratified layering difference between the exterior and the interior even though it’s helped by the creamier cheeses stuffing!   The black truffles really accentuated this dish to another level.   This was a very lovely cheese,  it could even do with more cheese flavour!    I also think the heirloom tomatoes selection at Betty’s Kitschen was a better accompaniment.  But this was definitely very fresh and enjoyable ~  8/10

Grilled Portobello Bruschetta -
With garlic brushed baguettes.  This was very earthy and enjoyable.   I was surprised at the flavours,  as it was almost porcini like than normal portobello in intensity!  ~    8/10

Spaghetti and Veal Meatballs -
These are light and soft,  filled with a bit of cheese.   Nice and simple and with some chunky tomato sauce.   ~    8/10

Sweet Potato & Pancetta Ravioli,  with fried Sage -
I liked these and wished I could down a few more of them lol.  Pasta’s to me are really comfort food and when shared amongst friends, it has it’s role as a primi course !   ~   8/10

A bit more wine, this time an Italian Chianti to go with the Main Courses..

Roasted Pork Shoulder -
This looked amazing when arriving on the table.   Our Manager for the night carved this expertly for us…

Nice and subtly herbed,  with very crispy pork crackling.   The meat looked a bit dry (due to using a specific local pork type) but in the mouth was actually decent and the pork flavour was very nice!   This is different from the normal Porchetta version they serve.   ~   8/10

Atlantic Cod Fish -
Pan fried wild catch cod, comes with some Tomato and Olive salsa.   Very good quality cod and unlike a lot of cod in town doesn’t carry that annoying fishiness!   Prefer it to come with more sauce though!  ~   7/10

Rainbow Trout,  Beurre Blanc style with Lemon & Herbs -
These are from sustainable farms and nicely grilled.   I think we were getting really full by this stage so I only got a bit of the belly part to try!    ~   8/10

Grilled Daily Farm Vegetables -
The quality of the veggies don’t need to be questioned.   These were grilled pretty well.   Actually I wouldn’t mind a bit more root vegetables thrown in, to be greedy!   ~  8/10

Roasted Potatoes with Pancetta -
These seemed a little to soft to me like,  but the pancetta and herbs helped the appropriate flavours ~  6/10

House Made Ice Cream -
Vanilla  I think?   Very lovely creamy

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Rum and Raisin Ice Cream -
These are SO MUCH better than the bland tasting ones I got at COVA the other day.
I could eat a bucketload of this ice cream ~   9/10

Coconut Cream Pie -
The dried pineapple crisp was very good.  The shortcrust casing and the prettily piped meringue had inside the coconut cream,  which had a hint of coconut flavour.   Loved this!   ~  9/10

Espresso -
This was decent quality and much better than in the past..
