There is a new Thai food promotion at Shatin’s Hyatt Regency Hotel, at Café Hyatt restaurant. Chef Mum (Siriluck Lekkwan) from Macau Hyatt Hotel will be here to promote her Thai themed buffet until 6th of April 2014. At $468 per person on weekdays, I really loved their Roast items here as well as the Unlimited Slipper Lobsters. A special mention to also the best waffles I have had in town so far.
Café Hyatt -
Over at Shatin Hyatt Regency Hotel.
Also found here is Shatin 18, one of the rare and authentic Peking Duck restaurants in Hong Kong as it is made according to Beijing traditions, and a sister restaurant to Made in China 長安一號 (Beijing) and also Beijing Kitchen 滿堂彩 (Macau).
Roast Items -
Looking so neat and offered as unlimited here.
BBQ Roast Pork was amazing -
Better than many dedicated roast shops. The Char siu was also decent. This hotel and Shatin 18 upstairs is famous for their meat roasting in HK for a good reason. I ate tons of these.. ~ 8/10
Eggs in Chinese Vinegary soup -
Good for pregnant women.
Grilled Fish in Thai style -
With plenty of Lemon Grass, Chili and Garlic.
Crawfish, Slipper Lobsters, Prawns, Mussels, Crab Legs -
I loved the abundance of unlimited Slipper Lobsters and also the Crawfishes… ~ 8/10
Sushi Counter -
Actually the Sushi counters in buffets to me personally, are what sets you from the competition apart. I can’t recall having seen a really impressive or at least above average Sushi counter for a while. Any smart restaurant will know that this can be the Drawing Card to pull in the crowd. At least here they have Sayori (Half Beak) fish. But it could be made more thoughtfully as a package… ~ 6/10
Thai Salads -
Ranging from grapefruit based appetizers, to healthier options or something spicy with minced meat.
Thai Larb Gai salad with Minced Chicken -
This version was actually quite spicy hot. Could be more moist. ~ 7/10
Charcuterie Section -
The Smoked Salmon were sliced thickly, the Prosciutto ham was good quality. Very satisfied with this selection in a buffet setting indeed. Shows heart. ~ 8/10
Pasta Station -
3 different types already pre-made and looking a little too generic. I expected something better when it comes to buffet pastas, especially when many places offer them made on the spot and customizable. ~ 6/10
Chinese Soup with Pork, Lotus Root, Beans -
Surprised to find such a big pot of Chinese soup in a buffet setting, and this was double-boiled really well here. ~ 9/10
Roast Prime Rib with Vegetables and Potatoes -
This looked decent. The 1st slice of beef was medium-rare and tender, marbled. Our 2nd shared piece became dryer but was still acceptable. ~ 7/10
Lamb Racks, Sausages, Beef Chuck -
The lamb looked a bit dry for me.
Pan-Fried Salmon in Herbed Cream sauce -
Sort of predictable and cliché.. But is good for salmon lovers.
BBQ Pork Ribs-
The flavour was intense, but not dry-rubbed. I like this version here, especially when it is unlimited. ~ 7.5/10
Red Curry with Mussels. Green Curry with Beef -
Served with a steamed Jasmine rice and Thai lime. Both were good although not too spicy. ~ 7.5/10
Portuguese tarts and Thai Baked desserts -
Mango, Coconut and Sticky Rice desserts -
With 2 different types of rice. ~ 8/10
Coconut and Banana Dessert Soup -
With a hint of saltiness. This was one of everyone’s favorite items for the night. In fact I have been eating this recipe for many decades and it used to be prevalent in many Hotel dessert recipes. Sometimes it is cooked with orange instead of bananas, believe it or not. One of my more precious childhood memories but not easily found again nowadays... ~ 9/10
Baked Pumpkin and Custard -
A lovely trusty combo and I have had this a few times recently… ~ 8/10
A Sticky, Mochi like Thai Dessert -
Three Layered shot glass with Pandan and Coconut Milk -
General Desserts on top of Thai specialty Selections -
Ice Cream station -
With Thai Milk Tea ice cream, and many more… With a Thai accent this time.
Freshly baked Waffle with Peanut sauce, Thai Tea ice cream, Chocolate Nuts,
Grapefruit & Orange, Almond flakes -
The waffle base was really fragrant and crispy on the outside and moist inside. A rarity in Hong Kong context and absolutely delightful. Would say this even beats some versions I ate in Belgium itself! (The Brussels not Liege style ones of course!) ~ 10/10
Bread & Butter Pudding looked neat too -
Well caramelized and with chunky pieces of bread. This trusty recipe can be taken for granted, but somehow the version at this buffet stood out. Good Value for Money buffet restaurant and items were looking so neat overall. Some room for improvements here and there but I will be back for the seafood, roast items and desserts.

I always want to go try Shatin18 but never managed to book it before it's full...(sigh)
ReplyDeleteWinsomesome,
ReplyDeleteYes it's surprising always full at Shatin 18!! It's immensely popular plus the prices are sane!
I mean it's far away for me to reach here as a HK Islander, but I absolutely don't mind coming all the way to Shatin 18 for a Duck and their lovely Chinese themed desserts!
This buffet downstairs is also good value for money, especially if you love Slipper Lobsters and Crawfishes like I do lol :D
