The Sunday foray traveling up to Shenzhen for a foodies trip became an interesting alternative instead of the normal weekend yum cha session. Instant gratification came from learning that this once-off dinner is hosted by Mission Street Food all the way from San Francisco, which became an instant hit and the New York Times coverage gave it a thumbs up for concept and food. Their mission statement is about cooking some homely and inventive food while giving back more to the community. http://blog.missionstreetfood.com/ A certain proportion of each dish’s price is deducted before profits then donated to the San Francisco Food Bank, which in turn provides food and comfort to the homeless or the underprivileged. Thanks to Chopstixfix and E-Ting The World for introducing this event to me!
Appetiser - Geoduck Clam, Razor Clam,
Clear Tomato Broth with herbal oil, Melon marinated in Ginger sauce..
Loved that broth and clams combination..
Bain Marie Steamed Egg, Scallop, Cooked Apple and Chrysanthemum -
Pretty interesting combo
Our Hosting Chef, Anthony Myint -
Preparing the very fresh prawns, cooked in a heated claypot of salt mound
The Result !
A little too rare for my liking, but the salt imparted a very good flavour..
More Razor Clams -
With 3 types of mushrooms and broth, with pinenuts.
To be eaten with the above prawns.
Duck 3 Ways - Duck Breast, Shredded Leg Confit in ‘Crepe Pulse’, and Fried Duck Tongue
This dish was quite Chinese but with a Western approach. Loved the duck tongues!
Steamed Fish Roulade with Chicken Liver & Meat,
in broth of Ginseng and Barley -
This is like a 2nd soup dish. It was interesting with the use of chicken livers as a filling. The soup needs more ginseng flavour ?
Sauterne with Mangosteen and Chrysanthemum -
Worked pretty amazingly well together!
Cornmeal Bread and Cream with Cognac, Chrysanthemum Syrup and Asian Pear -
Surprisingly good!
Our Hosts: The Husband and Wife Team from Mission Street Food ..
And why were we requesting to take pictures of the Receptionist, TomEats ?
