Lamb on Brunswick Street - (Melbourne)

Apologies for the sudden Melbourne post barging in onto the blog,  but I have been trying to locate this set of photos for a while but finally found it tonight hidden on the hard drive.   Basically one word describes it all -  a real charcoal bed for cooking the lamb souvlaki.  There are only 2 shops in Melbourne that I am aware of still practising this,  the other is Souvlaki King opposite to here.   You can smell pyrolysed fat flavour from a mile away,  so it makes it very difficult to go back to eating kebabs or souvlaki’s grilled with heating elements.   Also note that this is cooked horizontally, so the fat drops onto the charcoal below to release more flavours hehe..

Unassuming Look -
Found on the ever popular Brunswick Street,  but beware of racist drunken guys at night.  I’ve copped it a few times unless they are holding the Hispanic festival annually.  We even had a fight with someone a few years ago.  There are a lot of druggies or locals around who dislike tourists,  don’t bet on it.  But tell them you will be flying home soon is what I do to brush them off.   Thought Australia was better than this but oh well.. Doesn’t matter if u have an Aussie passport : S

Double Lamb Souvlaki Special – AUD $12
With Garlic Sauce, and the normal lettuce and tomato and u can add a dash of chili sauce urself.

I love the smell of the Lamb here -
Although some other places have a better sauce,  I still like their charcoal meat aroma here the best and just the thought of it makes me miss here !   Overall though I do prefer Souvlaki King opposite – but the meat aroma here really fills your nostrils just walking past.
