Greyhound Café at Harbour City (Hong Kong) - ♕♕♕♕ 1/2

Greyhound Café is a modernised Thai Café that is quite familiar to most Hong Kong travellers who frequently come past Thailand as a holiday destination.  Most Thai locals don’t seem to rate here that much, preferring to suggest other more localised options,  but when carrying a fair mind to judge properly,  the recipes here are uniquely trend-setting stuff and probably even considered cool.   It is opening up a new window of opportunities to be explored when it comes to modernised Thai Café food,  whether the customers agree or not.   There are people out there who will always believe that old and traditional is always better,  but to me I think it is all about evolving to suit and keeping up with the food trend and most importantly,  judging only at the end result rather than on theories alone!

Greyhound Signature Iced Tea -
Comes with tea flavoured ice cubes so when they melt it won’t dilute the flavours,  also lime imported from Thailand. The lime flavour is very apparent here but the tea was a little weak this time..  But it is more refreshing than the one I drank at IFC’s Greyhound ~  7/10

Salmon Carpaccio -
With a Thai flavoured pesto like sauce which was slightly spicy to give it some kick. Was pleasantly surprised. Sauce was more interesting than perceivable on the surface.   ~  8/10

Greyhound Famous Fried Chicken Wings -
These trimmed singular wings look more like chicken ribs. They had fish sauce taste and were a bit more moist... a lot better than the last batch I received at the IFC shop.  ~  7/10

Grilled Pork Satays with Sticky Rice and Spicy Sauce -
These were grilled ok well and remained moist,
but it was the sauce which came with it which was surprisingly addictive.  ~  8/10

Pork Stick -
Long pork spring rolls were fried very well, and both pork-y & herbal-y in taste. Not dumbed down at all like a lot of sterile spring rolls out there carrying little taste. Very enjoyabe for once..  ~  9/10

Avocado Salad with Rocket Leaves -
interlaced with some prawn pieces and tobikko flying fish roes.  This wasn’t anything spectacular,  but somehow the flavours worked together.  May be I expected more but it is ok ~  6/10

Pita Pizza with Seafood Stuffing -
This was very addictive!   Was kind of surprised at the well balanced tomato sauce and chunky seafood pieces mostly of prawns and calamari.  Looked more like a quesadilla. A must order -  www.jasonbonvivant.com said some pieces had only prawns and some only calamari though,  so I guess this is an issue to rectify.   ~   9/10

Musamun Curry with Broiled Beef -
Said to be an Osso Buco beater. The shanks were fork tender and gelatinous, well cooked. I thought the curry itself was missing a bit of spice complexity though,  it tasted mostly of fennel seeds to me.   ~  5/10

Spaghetti with Thai Anchovy -
I ♥ this.  For someone who loves salted fish or anchovies or fish sauce or garum,  I think this is quite salty for a normal customer but I happen to love this.   It is slightly chili but the umami from the grinded anchovies was excellent together with the al dente pasta. Fell in love with this dish!  ~  10/10

Fried Tiger Prawns with Thai Spices and Rice -
Quite a garlicky dish with a side soup with meatballs.  I really liked this, it was cooked perfectly from every aspect. You will need your partner to tolerate your breath afterwards though.  The next table’s dish had less sauce though,  apparently.   ~  8/10

A Salted Kumquat drink -
This was pretty enjoyable if you like this combination of flavours.
Quite salty actually..  despite me already eating an anchovies pasta!

Mango Crepe Cake -
This was awesome!  The bottom half is more of a mille crepe, and the mangoes and the sauce were so fresh.  I think this is easily the best mille crepe style dessert I've had locally,  plus I really love cream so I must be biased haha.   ~  9/10

Coconut Crepe Cake (This outlet only)-
Most others liked this version better, and it was also good!  The coconut was really fresh and creamy.   I like coconut too but probably young coconuts for the refreshing taste,  so for me this was a little too sweet but that is only a personal thing.  But this could be good for you ~  9/10

Coffee Mania Parfait -
This was decent. Marshmallows were a bit too hard. The coffee base in the dessert was quite strong but somehow everything seemed a bit too solid!  I think I prefer their Mango Sticky Rice parfait.   ~  6/10

Butterfly Pea Flower Tea -
I was really happy to see this tea actually on a personal account.  I had tried in vain to rediscover Nasi Kerabu in Singapore recently but to no avail, I'm missing my old days in Malaysia's Kelantan.
The blue tea here is made from the same flower petal as a Nasi Kerabu.  The taste is a little more about colours than fragrance,  it is actually slightly moldy like in the fragrance and taste.  Add in some diluted honey,  and the colour turns purple! Surprised smile

Dessert Display Fridge -
The performance at the TST Harbour City Greyhound Café was easily better than the IFC shop,  for some strange reason and other bloggers have said the same.  The Iced Tea was more limey here,  but sweeter yet stronger at the other shop.  The Chicken Wings were more moist inside. The prices at the Harbour City store are also a little bit lower for some items,  so when it is slightly cheaper but serving better quality food why should I go to the IFC store?
