Debauve et Gallais is one of the most famous French Chocolatier founded way back in 1800 when it was well known for its alternative, healthier chocolate creations as well as its advertised medicinal properties. It was thus awarded a Royal Warrants of Appointment, and was elevated to a very high status by being the Sole Supplier within France to the greats of King Louis XVIII, Charles X and Louis-Philippe. Now that’s really an amazing heritage… Nowadays however, Debauve et Gallais has become accessible by just about anybody, but had lost none of its charm during the last 2 Centuries (nor it’s price tag either, as it is even more dearer than equally famed La Maison du Chocolat!). The chocolate creations however are not marketed as being healthy and medicinal anymore, but simply on its own merit and taste. The highest cocoa content Chocolate piece reaches an almost unheard of 99%…
Drinks Menu, with a few good Teas available..
Chocolate Truffle Cake -
Truffle cake was a bit too dense and hard to be labelled as a true chocolate truffle,
but the 72% Choco proportion was very rich. If only they could make sure the cake isn’t overly compressed and solid… ~ 7/10
Darjeeling ‘GFOP’ Superieur Tea -
This Black Tea was lacking a bit in aroma and for a French court, royal family or aristocrats favourite chocolatier, this was disappointing ~ 6/10
L’Oursin and Spring Macaron -
A sea urchin look-alike chocolate piece with crunchy bit within, which exploded in the mouth, as well as a Chocolate based Spring Macaron sandwich (no egg whites). Both were exceptional, and highly recommend over the locally made cake and Tea above ~ 9.5/10
Price: $150 Per Person
